Nicaragua, the largest country of Central America, is known as the land of lakes and volcanoes, is an extraordinary undiscovered land with diverse tourist attractions, interesting culture, great history and unbelievable landscapes. It is the home to Granada (founded in 1524) and Leon, two of the oldest cities in Latin America. Lake Nicaragua is the largest freshwater lake in Central America and is home to the world’s only freshwater sharks (Bull sharks).

Itinerary:

Day 1: Airport – Managua

Upon arrival at the airport in Managua, the country’s capital city you will be met by our guide who will accompany you to the hotel. Accommodation in Managua.

Day 2:  Leon Viejo – Hot Springs of San Jacinto – City Tour Leon – Walking Tour

08h00 Journey to Leon the first capital of Nicaragua for over 200 years. Leon was founded by Spanish Captain Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba in 1524. Relocated to its current location in 1610 due to volcanic eruptions from Momotombo volcano. Leon Viejo ruins were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2000. 

Continue to the spectacular visit to the Hot Springs of San Jacinto, a tiny village located just 30 minutes northeast of Leon with imposing hot fumaroles and mud holes connected to Santa Clara and Telica volcanoes on the Maribios volcanic chain of Nicaragua. Return to Leon. Free time for lunch not included. 15h00 Discover Leon, the intellectual center of Nicaragua, a charming Spanish-Colonial city founded by Spanish captain Francisco Hernández de Cordoba in 1524. Get around stunning colonial buildings and a number of Leon’s famous churches including a remarkable view from the cathedral’s rooftop on a pleasant walking tour. Accommodation in Leon.

Day 3: Flor de Caña Rum Factory Tour

08h00 A Journey through 130 years of family history of the most awarded rum in the world. Flor de Cañarumhas become the ambassador brand of Nicaragua to the world. During the tour, which has six stations and can be completed less than two hours, you will learn about the history and sustainable production process and get to taste the award-winning rum. Enjoy free time at the local museum and Shop at their boutique. Accommodation in Leon.

Day 4: Masaya Volcano, Craft Market & Catarina viewpoint

08h00 Explore the Masaya Volcano National Park. This half day tour includes a visit to the first and largest national park establish in Nicaragua since 1979. This volcanic complex has an area of 54 km² including two volcanoes and five craters having an elevation of 635 meters about sea level. This geological formation is today, the only volcano in the western hemisphere where you are able to drive into the rim. Enjoy free time for shopping for souvenirs at the Craft Market in Masaya. Free time for lunch not included. Stopover at the attractive and lovely Catarina viewpoint. Accommodation in Granada.

Day 5: City Tour Granada City – Carriage Tour

09h00 Travel around Granada on a Carriage Tour and Discover the culture and history of the most beautiful, beguiling and photogenic Spanish-Colonial city and oldest continuously inhabited European established settlement in Nicaragua founded in 1524. Accommodation in Granada.

Day 6: Volcano Mombacho Trails & Canopy Tour

08h00 Amazing expedition into the trails of the Mombacho Volcano + Zip Line Tour! The Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve is one of the 78 protected areas of Nicaragua. Walk thru the nature trails between cloud and dwarf forest and discover yourself the most beautiful landscape of Nicaragua Free time for lunch not included. Experience Zip line or Canopy across the treetops at the Mombacho Volcano. Accommodation in Granada.  

Day 7: Ometepe Island Tour

07h30 Early departure and transfer to the port of San Jorge. Ferry and visit to Ometepe Island, a biosphere reserve, the highest lake island in the world and one of the most beautiful places of Nicaragua. Then take an unforgettable expedition to places like the pre-Columbian Museum, the Green Puddles lagoon, the great view of Volcano Conception and the green volcano Madera. Spend time at El Ojo de Agua that consist of crystal-clear spring-fed waters captured in two natural, stone pools set in the middle of a gorgeous and colorful botanical gardens. Free time for lunch not included in Santo Domingo beach. Accomodation in Ometepe Island

Day 8: Ometepe Island

Breakfast at hotel. Day at leisure to be in contact with nature or just relaxing on the fresh water lake beach. Accommodation in Santo Domingo beach at Ometepe Island.

Day 9: Ometepe Island – Managua

Breakfast at hotel

11h00 Transfer and ferry return to the port of San Jorge. Continue to Managua. Accommodation in Managua.

DAY 10 – Managua – Airport

Breakfast at the hotel.  At the according time, transfer to the airport for your return home.
